Winchester Embroiderers' Guild welcomes contemporary and traditional textile artists, embroiderers and craft enthusiasts

Many of our members attended our annual Christmas Party, and enjoyed a delicious spread of food, a challenging quiz, a Christmas embroidery competiton and a raffle with lots of lovely  prizes.

The party began with a short business meeting and the committee is delighted to have Joanna Graham on board to help Margaret with the role of Treasurer. Joanna will be responsible for the computer entry side of the role, while Margaret is in charge of the cash side of things. Jennifer told the meeting that the theme for the SEW Regional Day competition is Jane Austin - so get your thnking caps on! Also don't forget that the closing date to enter the Mmebers' Challenge Competition - Imprisoned Splendour is fast approaching. The role of Sales Table Co-ordinator remains unfilled, please do consider if you could help or there is a danger that we not longer be able to run the Sales Table. Members agreed that while the quiz was challenging it was too long - the quiz masters have made a note of this feedback for next year! For those of you interested in taking a second look at the quiz you can download a copy of the quiz  and answers here (you will need access to the Members' Only section of the site. If you have stitchers to entertain over Christmas/New Year you might find it useful. The entries for the competition were a little thin but this does not take anything away from the beautiful pieces entered by the few. Congratulations go to Jenny Carter, who won first Prize and the Dorothy Carbonell Award with her stunning jumbo Christmas bunting and to Liz Frampton who came second with her beautiful piece of hand embroidery entitled "My Hometown". The photos of all the entries from the competition can be seen here. There was also a vote for the best entry for both of our Young Embroiderers' Groups with the winner for the Cotton Reel YE group being Madeleine with her shisha mirror work, while Rosie Gorman clinched first prize for the Winchester YE Group with her beautiful hedgehog bookmark!
