Stitching Group

stitching groupThe Stitching Group meets from 10am to noon on the Wednesday morning before the afternoon branch meeting  at The Dovetail Centre, Chandler's Ford. (Wednesday 11th October 2017). Bring a piece of hand stitching to do while we chat and also any projects that you would like to share with the group - we would love to see what you get up to with your embroidery. If you stay to eat lunch please sit in the Library area and use the exit in this area to leave the room.

Sales Table

Untll we have found a solution to our storage problem we will be running our Sales Table with the "Adopt a Box" Scheme. You can help by bringing a box of textile craft items you no longer want. All money raised will go to Branch Funds. Please remember to take your box home with you at the end of the afternoon. For more infomation please contact Karen.

Membership Renewal

You will have seen that there is an early-bird offer for membership. If you haven’t signed up already, perhaps because you are confused by the new system HQ has set up, we will talk you through the changes. Please bring your renewal form with you as we need to have that for our Branch records. We will have blank forms at the meeting for anyone without access to a computer and printer. Download the form. Subscriptions will be held at last year's rate (£52) if you pay by 30 September 2017. This rises to £54 if you pay after this date. We have adapted the information on the reverse of the form so that we can collect details about members' interests, especially for new members but we are hoping that existing members will complete this section as well.

Alice Kettle - Stitching Stories

Those of you who have madecushions, please can you add a pad. Unfortunately the hoped for supply of filling hasn’t arrived in time.

If you have a piece of work to exhibit please complete this form so that you can give your work some context.

Please read the sheet of instructions  ‘Exhibition set-up and take down’ from the Discovery Centre about when to deliver and collect your work. 

Here is a programmerogramme for the whole event. I hope you will be pleased to see that Alice is giving us 2 free workshops. I will bring more sign-up sheets for these too, and then send out a requirements list to those who need.

I think this will all be a wonderful opportunity for as many as possible to become involved  and to engage friends and family too.

WEG Workshops

JACKIE LANGFELD workshop is  rescheduled for Tuesday 10th October at St. Peter’s Church Pastoral Centre, Jewry Street, Winchester. 
An experimental 3D workshop using natural materials and/or recycled and found objects. This workshop will look at ways of enclosing something precious to protect and preserve. It will make use of hand stitching in an experimental way to fix and join and may involve other tools and equipment. The scale will be led by individual choices as will the shape and form. The idea is to link this workshop with the Alice Kettle project 'Displacement, Passage', happening in the autumn. The cost of this workshop is £20. The requirements list is available to download in the members' area, BUT sign in and then go back to the home page to click the link to be taken straight there. 

Please do not sign up for a course unless you have the cash or a cheque to pay for it. Your place is not reserved if you haven't paid and your name will be removed if a member who is able to pay requests a place. At the moment there are 5 places available.

 

AUTUMN STUMPWORK, Thursday 9 November 2107
The sign-up sheet for this workshop will be available at the September meeting. The cost is £25. Please do not sign up unless you have a cheque or cash; your place is not reserved without payment.  

The tutor is Annette Bolton and the project will be a stump work design of a circle of blackberries, rosehips and autumn leaves.  If you want a sneak peak at Annette’s work you can find ithere where there is a whole gallery of her stump work to inspire you. You will be applying the design to your own fabric as part of the class so you can create and use your own design if you prefer, Annette’s website might give you some ideas.  Please note that the picture is not the actual design you will be completing and is just to give you a flavour of Annette’s autumnal work.

Winchester Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild is run entirely by a committee of volunteers and other non-committee members, without whose help the branch would not be able to run. We rely on rotas of general members to run the sales table, serve teas/coffees and steward at exhibitions. If you feel you could contribute in any way to help running the branch please contact the chairman. We are currently without a Treasurer (Book-keeping) and in desperate need of someone to come forward to co-ordinate the Sales Table.
