Stitching Group

stitching groupThe Stitching Group meets from 10am to noon on the Wednesday morning before the afternoon branch meeting  at The Dovetail Centre, Chandler's Ford. Bring a piece of hand stitching to do while we chat and also any projects that you would like to share with the group - we would love to see what you get up to with your embroidery. If you stay to eat lunch please sit in the Library area and use the exit in this area to leave the room.

Sales Table

Untll we have found a solution to our storage problem we will be running our Sales Table with the "Adopt a Box" Scheme. You can help by bringing a box of textile craft items you no longer want. All money raised will go to Branch Funds. Please remember to take your box home with you at the end of the afternoon. For more infomation please contact Karen.

WEG Workshops

February Workshop
There one or two places left on Alison Hulme’s printing workshop next Thursday. Please note the venue change – Colden Common Church Hall. The cost is £18 plus £10 for materials, so £28 in total. All you need to bring is a selection of fabrics for printing on.

March Workshop

There are a few places left on Fay Maxwell’s March workshop, ‘Thread to Thread’. Please bring a cheque or cash if you wish to sign up at Wednesday’s meeting. After Wednesday’s meeting any spare places will be offered up to Region.

Thread to Thread
Create a pebbly beach or wildflower meadow. Heavily textured adaptation of the Dorset button, introducing Shisha and French knots on muslin and chiffon overlaid onto a silk background. Adapting traditional stitching techniques using different weights of thread alongside one another to create beautiful effects. You will work towards making mirror or picture frames, encrusted box-tops or small purses.

Equipment List
Piece of silk backed with cotton, size to suit
Selection of sheers, voiles, silk metallic
Variety of hand-stitching threads (stranded cotton, wool, crochet thread etc)
Sewing kit

A mirror pack (for a mirror measuring 11 x 9) includes the mirror and cut card padded frame and all the fabrics required. If you want to make a mirror you can buy this kit on the day for £15.

Forthcoming Competitions

The theme for this years EG Members challenge is “Underfoot” and the Winchester branch committee has agreed that we will adopt the same theme for the competition for the Dorothy Carbonell Award to be brought to our June 2018 meeting. Members can also enter their work for the National Challenge. The closing date for this is 28th February, details can be found in the Contact magazine on the members' area of the
EG website or download the registration form and details.
The Esme Parker Award for hand stitching will be held in May and is un-themed. Jackie Langfield will be talking at this meeting.
